BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Sanjai Jalaj, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with a passion for rejuvenating his patients’ vision. Specializing in the latest techniques for corneal and refractive surgery, Dr. Jalaj has performed thousands of sight-restoring procedures in Morris and Essex counties. He is widely trusted by local physicians to perform their own cataract surgeries, thanks to his personalized approach to each patient’s care.
Dr. Jalaj’s expertise includes femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery with the most advanced intraocular lens implants, allowing him to achieve precise, customized outcomes that reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses. He also specializes in cutting-edge corneal transplantation techniques, such as Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), which uses a fraction of the tissue required in traditional transplants. For patients with keratoconus, Dr. Jalaj employs a novel technique called corneal collagen crosslinking, often eliminating the need for transplants altogether. His custom LASIK treatments offer patients the opportunity to eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
In addition to his work in cataract, corneal, and refractive surgery, Dr. Jalaj is experienced in laser vision correction (LASIK/PRK) for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. He is also skilled in minimally invasive glaucoma procedures and oculoplastic surgery to address issues such as droopy eyelids.
Dr. Jalaj completed his ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where he served as Chief Resident. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the renowned Cleveland Clinic, where he focused on corneal biomechanics. Over the course of his career, Dr. Jalaj has developed a reputation for delivering excellent outcomes through a compassionate and individualized approach to patient care. Through his diligence, he has even earned the position of Vice Chairman of Ophthalmology at Morristown Medical Center.
Dr. Jalaj is committed to providing the highest quality care and is constantly exploring new ways to combine cutting-edge technology with tried-and-true techniques to achieve the best results for his patients. In 2025, he will continue to practice in Morris and Essex counties, with potential expansions to additional locations in the near future.
